Cannabis Edible CandyFor medical marijuana patients unable to smoke or vaporize, cannabis edibles provide a great alternative for medicating. Marijuana edibles can be found in everything from the classic cannabis brownie to medicinal marijuana salsa.

Marijuana edibles are made with cannabis in its herbal or resin (ex: hashish) form as an ingredient. Because of its composition, cannabis can be combined into oils (often called cannaoils or marijuana oils), butters (often called cannabutter or marijuana butter) or the resin itself can be used. Once cannabis has been properly extracted it can be cooked into baked goods such as cookies, brownies, cakes, cookies, muffins, breads and other items such as beverages, salsas, spreads, candies, and flavored oils.

Cannabis Cookie Unified CollectiveWhether you smoke or eat your medicinal marijuana, both methods of medicating will eventually place the active compounds of MMJ into your blood. Once in your blood stream these active compounds in marijuana, known as cannabinoids, will go to your brain where they will attach to binding sites and create the intended medicinal effects.

When you eat medical marijuana, the active compounds will first travel through your digestive tract, then finally to your liver where it is processed. Your liver processes THC a bit differently than when smoked, and it is thought that this THC by-product created by your liver is 4-6 times stronger than regular THC. From the liver these compounds will go to your brain, and you will begin to feel the effects.

Because of this longer process of digestion and breakdown associated with ingesting cannabis, it can take a lot longer for you to feel the effects.
