What is SB 420 and What Does It Mean For Medical Marijuana?

State Bill 420 CaliforniaState Bill 420 is a legislative statue in California, which took effect in January 2004 as California Health and Safety Code 11362.7-.83. SB 420 is an addendum to Prop 215, which extends the reach of Prop 215 to include transportation and/or other related offenses to offer protection to patients using marijuana for medicinal purposes. SB 420 also gives medical marijuana patients the right to collectively or cooperatively cultivate marijuana for medicinal purposes.

After the passing of SB 420, probationers, parolees and prisoners became able to apply for medical marijuana validations. With physician approval, these groups of people are now able to use marijuana for medicinal purposes. SB 420 also limited the areas in which medical marijuana may be used.
